Economically most suitable voltage in electrical power transmission system is one on which the sum of cost of the conductor material, insulators, transformers, witch-gear and other transmission equipment is minimum. As the distance of power transmission is increased, cost of the conductor material can be significantly decreased by increasing the transmission voltage level. The economics of transmission voltage depends on amount of electrical power to be transmitted and length of the transmission line. The economical choice of the transmission voltage is 0.65kV/km.
However the Line to Line economical transmission voltage can be calculated as when distance (in Km) of transmission line and power to be transmitted are known,
E = Line to Line Transmission Voltage in KV
L = Distance (Km) of transmission line
KVA = Power to be Transmitted
Sr No. | Transfer Power (MW) | Distance (Km) | Voltage Level in KV |
1 | 4000 | 500 | 765 |
2 | 500 | 400 | 400 |
3 | 120 | 150 | 220 |
4 | 80 | 50 | 132 |
